Editor's Note: Originally shared by Daniel Herrington on LinkedIn following the launch of Meta Muse and The Zebra's rapid
robots.txtagentic onboarding update.
A few days ago I posted that Zuck’s tweet last Friday had me building all weekend. That wasn’t an exaggeration. Within hours of Muse's release last week, we had pushed an update to The Zebra's robots.txt with the goal of helping Muse, and the people using it, find their way around our site.
As the dust has started to settle with the start of a new week, a live debate has emerged in our industry about what to do when an AI agent shows up to shop for insurance.
Some of our peers are opting to shut the door. They believe that these agents won’t deliver appropriate or contextual offer comparisons for shoppers. Or they are wary of bulk quotes, firing data pulls and running up costs for carriers with nothing to show for it.
The Zebra is opening the door.

Why Blocking Agents Isn't the Answer
For one, we don't think blocking agents is the answer. Consumers are increasingly going to use AI agents to research, compare and transact on their behalf, including when they shop for insurance. We would rather help define how agentic insurance shopping should work and build with safeguards in mind than opt-out.
Perhaps more importantly though, we have been building for this moment.
Guided by our belief that people should be able to shop for insurance wherever they already are, we have spent the last few years developing safeguards and training and refining new models designed to protect our lead quality and control additional cost for our carrier partners as new consumer channels emerge.
Meeting Consumers Wherever They (or Their Agents) Are
Americans have enough going on. We want to meet them wherever they (or their agents) want to be.
The questions around agentic insurance shopping are real. We think they are worth solving thoughtfully, and we would rather help build the future than block it.
